I used to always drink alot when I went out and wondered why the next day I was missing a shoe had sick and tomatoe sauce down my best shirt and a good £100 missing from my bank. So i decided it was time to cut my drinking right down and to be honest its the best decision I have ever made. Since I have retired myself from drinking, I find I enjoy my night out alot more, I can have conversations without sluring or falling asleep on the pavement, I pretty much pull every night due to not being a drunken mess and the best of all I have never lost a shoe since and money no longer magically disappears out of my bank account. But I agree drinking is alot of fun and has provided me with some great storys & messy situations, however I disagree with those who say people who don't drink cannot have fun because I have seen it from both sides now and know you can have just as much fun if not more depending on your personality.

Yes, it is highly annoying. I used to go to parties, meets etc - they were fun before. Now, most, if not everybody drinks and it really is not "fun" anymore - loads of people make a fool of themselves and "joke" around - a plus in those situations is that the one who does not get drunk gets to look at how stupid people are and can look down on people making a fool of themselves and having no consciousness of their behaviour  - you can be the sober and serious one and they can be the ones ******* themselves

Having said that, I (and you can believe this or not) used to be one of those who was at the centre of a number of parties cracking jokes and getting the laughs - shockingly, I was never drunk.
so you've stopped going parties/gatherings etc?
I agree, a lot of people really make a fool of themselves and I think to myself, something is definitely wrong with them, haha. that's so true, I was at a friends party a week ago and quite a few got drunk early and I was just watching them whilst sitting down with my red bull and j2o, and I was amused at their stupidity.
    precisely

that sounds pretty much like myself :P

There's a hint of inner sadness here.

P.S you should be glad there's someone here to tell you this, I doubt anyone is going to tell you what you need to hear in real life.

Your false idea that you are somehow better for not conforming and not taking alcohol is a lie, once you embrace it and realise it's not so bad, you will stop being the outsider not enjoying himself at parties.

If you disagree with me and think you should stick by with some flawed unnecessary principles, your choice, but as humans are sociable creatures you will only find happiness by conforming (to an extent) and being sociable with the rest of society. I'm sorry but that's the way it works.
    Er... ok. :erm:

Just one thing - I am never going to drink - no point, no use and I am not interested.

P.S. One does not have to drink to be sociable or happy or fun.

alcohol is good. nothing beats a night out with your best pals getting wrecked and meeting for a cafe in the morning with a host of funny stories. to me you sound a bit of a weirdo and need to constantly reassure yourself how much fun you are :L why did you even make this thread? go down the pub and have a pint or something jeez.
What happens when you take away the alcohol from your life?

Will there be no more stories? No more fun? No more "laughs"?

By Jove, will you guys even still be friends?

I have pretty much stopped - it is around this time that many people have their 18ths however and I have already been to a couple. But, on the whole, I not socialise in other ways...

Yes, it is highly amusing when everybody is drunk and messy and laughing and you are laughing too (but little do they know that you are laughing at them!)

And don't get me started on school-friends on a Sunday night - so awkward seeing them the next day in school, having a clear and colourful knowledge of what they got up to and how they looked (with some of them not even remembering  ! )

I hardly drink at all, and I'm 18. I only drink a bottle (tops) of cider at parties, and even then it's only to fit in. The reason isn't because of the health effects (otherwise I'd live in a bubble and do nothing); it's purely because I can't stand the taste of alcohol generally.

You go to parties to laugh at people? Your friends no less?

You truly are the epitome of man.

Being drunk is funny as **** although, there are negative effects of course like the fact that i'm sick everytime. But feeling buzzed is a great feeling.

I don't. Probably cos my dad is a complete prick when he drinks but a nice guy when he doesn't, i don't wanna bother risking being like that. I'm retarded enough when i'm sober anyways, i have plenty of good stories

I don't go to parties solely for that reason, but it does end up being that way.

One can actually have fun at parties, but it starts to get annoying when everybody is past the threshold of communicating...

Also, my friends are highly different people when drunk...

I don't want to try it - it seems like a drink that creates an illusion of "fun" and seems to temporarily lift problems... :beard:
Wow you seriously need to let yourself go a bit lol

Happy? More like it temporarily blinds you to the issues that need solving and is similar to religion (the opium of the people), no?

    Alcohol, what a waste.
Just wondering, how can you know what alcohol does to you if you've never actually tried it?

I used to "binge drink" around 5 times a week and I loved it.
Then suddenly one day I didn't find it fun anymore, I'd now much rather have a glass of wine after a hard day or whatever...

I drink because I like the effects of it, quite simply lol - I become more confident and outgoing, and generally stop worrying about what people think of me. Also, when I've had a bit to drink I become the greatest dancer in the world, which is handy when you're in a club
