    Hello,

I'm really finding it difficult to find fellow Queen Mary-ers starting on postgrad courses in 2011 so here's hoping that this thread will bring you guys out of the woodwork!

    Course: PhD Biology
    Campus: Blizard Institute, Whitechapel

So excited but now wondering about how to work out accommodation stuff!

    congratulations.

I really liked the look of the course and got on well with the head of the course but the pull of UCL was too much, I was also nervous because it is a new course and on how it would fly....

the courses look quite similar really, QM has more flexibilty in it though. which is nice.

    thx ^^

yeah, I've applied for a MRes in UCL, but they kinda rejected me and wants to offer me a place in MA linguistics... so I totally understand the PULL of UCL

loves pragmatics and sociolinguistics...so UCL is 1st choice but QM might also be a nice place... still, this new programme thing really makes me nervous too...I've only got a list of the modules now...still thinking about this now:cool:

I m international student (from Thailand!) and I 've already accepted the offer for MA Film Studies in 2011. About accommodation, I already apply for the QM dorm. However, we are in different campus because mine is Mile End.

That's great...congrats! I'm international too...Indian-but have lived in the UK for the last 4 years...did my undergrad here.

The campuses are not very far apart from each other. I too have applied for halls but would rather live out so I'm trying to see if I can do anything about that.

I read from the website that the postgrad students in humanities and social sciences can use The Lock-keeper's Cottage which looks very cool from the outside, however, is it chaotic in there because I believe many people wanna use the cottage. Or is it for PhD students only?

Also, I believe that the new Humanities building will be available for this year (Yeah!) Though the building is belong to the Department of History, I hope it will have a range of academic activities there.

Yep, the lock-keeper's cottage is a great facility. It has a nice common room for humanities/social science students (Masters & PhD level) and a full kitchen. Sometimes it can be busy, because there are few computers but you can reserve them by booking in advance. The architecture on campus is all relatively new and interesting...

And the library has had a recent facelift too - lots of good spaces to do group-work in as well as socialising & study

The Lock-keepers cottage is sh**, normally a bit trashed up and the computer rotation system is non-existent.

Yes, I will live in the Mile End Campus. I haven't been to UK, but the pictures of the student village in the website and youtube look really nice. The modules are great, especially the fact that we can choose one module from other film department in University of London. That means we have tons of modules to choose! I might go to take one module at KCL (I hope the class won't crash with the QM core course!).
