Hey guys. I recently received an unconditional to study at Edinburgh (2011 entry). However, due to various reasons I've decided it would be much better for me to wait until next year to go... do you think they would let me defer entry if I phoned them up even though an offer has already been made? Or will I just have to reject everything and wait until next year to re-apply? The only problem with that is that Edinburgh is my first choice and I'd really love to be secure in the knowledge that I have an unconditional next year instead of having to go through the application process all over again.

There's no harm in trying, but I heard about an applicant in a similar situation to you a couple of days ago who had an unconditional and was hoping to defer but had been told flat out that it wasn't possible.

I came with deferred entry, but I knew before I even applied that I was deferring, and it was a couple of years ago that I applied (I'm just finishing 1st year at the moment). Like Ian says, you may as well try!

My situation was a bit different but I guess a little relevant.

I was offered deferred entry but I really needed 2 gap years because of national sevice so I wrote to them...their reply was along the lines of having to ensure that you were still competent one year after what they felt they were comfortable of offering you, and that I was 'welcome' to apply again next year.

I'm guesing you'd probably hear the same thing as well but honestly speaking if you never ask then you never know yours has a much likelier chance of happening than mine was.

Also don't worry, if you have enough quality this time round it is highly unlikely you won't make the cut next year..I got in both times gd luck!
