    Hey,

I'm mapping out some electron distributions for superposed states during transitions. I'm happy with notating, for example, the 1s state as u_100, but what does this u actually mean? Does it refer to the wavefunction squared?

    Thanks

    u typically represents the wavefunction

Adding to trm90's comment the 1, 0, 0 refers to the principal quantum number n, the angular momentum quantum number m and the magnetic quantum number ml, respectively.
