Leeds or York for an English degree?

But also for the city, university, shops, night life, halls of residence etc.

I would say Leeds. It depends. Check out the city guides. York seems like a calm ,quiet place to me. Leeds is more metropolitan imo. I may be wrong though. What matters more to you the English course? or Happy factor?

You can judge it by "happy factor" I guess, if they both have equally high standard English degrees.

I was in the same situation for English. I picked Leeds because it feels a lot more fun and down to earth and nothing is ever far away. English (if you're doing lit) at York also has a foreign language module which I really didn't fancy! Although York is really beautiful. Depends on what you like I guess.
