I have been in my job over 3 years and feel its time to move on. Tomorrow I am handing in my job application for a job in another department, the company policy is to tell you line manager when applying. I am worried to tell her as she is a possessive person and feels threatened when competent staff leave. People have said to tell her I enjoy my job but thought to apply for this job would be to broaden my experience or is a challenge. What is best to say as I don't want to piss her off.

So what if she gets upset?

It's your life isn't it? Do you live to please everyone at your detriment?

Come on, have some self respect and apply for the new job. If that is what you want, why should anyone stop you?
