I've been in bed with a chest infection this week and have had it since last wednesday. Two days ago I started bleeding although my period isn't due until the 7th. At first I got a little bit of ache round the ovary area but it was barely pain. Then I was lying on my front and coughed really hard and felt a twang in my right front side and then it hurt there to cough, and later on it swapped sides, so the left aches a bit now.

I've bled like a light period for 2 days and it was a little bit heavier today. It's often mucousy or like normal dark period blood and there's been a few clumps. I know its not a real period because it doesn't hurt, and mine always come regularly after predictable symptoms. I've never been on any contraceptive and I'm certainly not pregnant. Any experience of unexplained bleeding?

Definitely go to your GP, tell the receptionist you have unexplained bleeding and you should get a priority appointment. Hope it gets sorted soon and you feel better.

Seeing your doctor is advisable. Bleeding down there is something that should attract attention and priority

Well of course go to the doctors asap, but sometimes stress to the body (such as your chest infection) may disturb your period for that month

See a doctor, this doesn't sound normal.

sometimes stress can cause periods to come in early, as well as heavy/abnormal bleeding. illnesses also cause early periods. however, i still suggest that you go see your GP as nobody on here is qualified to advise you about your health. this may be a serious issue.

    all the best.

Stress can play havoc with your hormones. Same thing happened to me last year - I ended up having 2 periods each month, for 3 months in total. To be honest my GP didn't seem too concerned, she told me to keep an eye on it because it could signal something like ovarian cysts. After the three months it sorted itself out and I went back to being regular. These 'extra' periods weren't like normal either - I was much much lighter, but it lasted about 11 days! I had mild aches as well. It was unusual because I was also regular as clockwork.

See your GP if you're worried though, she'll probably do a pelvic exam to check for things like cysts.
