Can anyone tell me how to use it? Not si as in if, si as in an altervative to oui/non

    Merci!

I think you can use it to mean 'yes, of course' when responding to a negative question. I only do GCSE French though, so I'm not sure how else it can be used.

If someone ends a question with n'est pas, for example c'est beau aujhourd'hui n'est pas (it's nice today isn't it?) you can answer si. someone correct me if that's wrong!

Si is used when you want to contradict something negative.

Il ne vient pas. -Si, il est en route.
Tu n'en veux plus? -Si, je vais m'en resservir.
Tu trouves pas que ce film est pourri? -Si, c'est bidon.

It's bloody hard to adapt it to your idiolect. After nearly half a year in France I still had to remember to use "si". This was ongoing even after a funny and completely contextually correct usage of "tant pis".
