    If we know that alkanes have the same functional group, what is that functional group?

    Thanks.

    could be an OH
    It's only an alkane, not an alcohol . . .

    the functional group in alkanes is the C-C
    ................. and that for alkenes is C=C

    alkanes have no functional group, but they have the same general formula.

    Alkanes are a bit weird - Alkenes have their one C=C bond, Alkynes have there one C-C triple bond.

    Alkanes' functional group could be the Alkyl group - e.g.
    Methane = Methyl + H = CH3 + H
    Ethane = Ethyl + H = C2H5 + H
    .
    .
    .
    and so on.

    It would be the alkyl group CH3!
    If it was OH then it would be an alcohol (:

    Cnh2n + 2

    they're saturated hydrocarbon bonds. they do not have functional groups (as far as i'm aware of anyway).

    The 'functional group' is the C-C bond, like the C=C is the 'functional group' of Alkene.

    There is no functional group in alkanes, it's just a few carbon atoms linked by a simple bond (and hydrogen of course)

    Alkanes have no functional group

    I wouldn't say they have a functional group. You could say that the functional group is a Carbon chain saturated with Hydrogen... The closest think you could say is the methyl group.
