Loughborough university or Nottingham Trent University???

Im hoping to do chemistry(mchem) by the start of next year.
The thing is that im confused about my firm choices. According to the chemistry rankings, notingham trent is 10 places above loughborough...but overall uni wise loughborough is higher.
Do i have to choose according to the best uni or course???
Also please advice me about which place is better...I have to make a decision...Im prefer nottingham trent more...Do u think thatz a right decision???

Thanks

well if you look at another league table for chemistry, loughbrough is ranked at number 6.

Well, if all university league tables were the same then it would be rather pointless having more than one, wouldn't it?

The reason why they differ is because they take different things into account, at least to some extent. Even those who take approximate the same things into account can vary as they will use different weightings (amongst other things).

If you look at the Complete University Guide you can change the positions of universities by one to ten places or more, simply by change the weighting of each different criteria.

This is one reason why league tables shouldn't be taken so literally.

What do you think u should choose according to the uni's???

Have you visited both? Facilities, current and past students' experiences, course content, social life, location of university....

Anyway, moving your thread to Bio, Chem, Phys.

I would choose Loughborough. I actually applied to Nott Trent also but way attracted to loughborough's reputation.

Loughborough as a reputation is a great university, but it really isnt very pretty anymore, they are building everywhere, and being an on campus uni, you are never too far away from building works...
Also, loughborough as a town is horrible, the nightlife you will get bored of within 2 weeks, and shops and everything are small, and not much there...
Saying all that, the Union at Loughborough is amazing! specialised nights 4 nights a week, with 3 of them being the place night out you can get in Lough.

Hope that helps at all.

I think it's still one of the nicest campuses around. And they're just making sure everything is perfect for the start of the Olympics and other unofficial things that will be happening...
Depends what you're looking for, I study at Nottingham Trent, but have visited and been out at night in Loughborough before as one of my flatmates' boyfriends studies there.
At Trent you would be on Clifton campus, which is just outside the city centre, so you get to be close to great nightlife, shops and plenty to do. However Trent is quite often looked down upon for being an ex-poly. We do however have great community spirit, lots of trips and generally a brilliant time. Also being on Clifton you would be right near the sports facilities, which although not as good as at Loughborough's, are still pretty good! In general, there's a real mixed bunch of people at Trent, quite a few internationals though.

Loughborough is quite a small place with limited nightlife, the SU has never been as great as people make out when I've been, and few shops. However it is more revered as it is not an ex-poly. There is some really nice accommodation there though, which is also reasonably priced. If you are into sports, it really is the top place to be for any type. However there are a lot of 'rah' types there, dressed head to toe in JW with Daddy's money, or at least there have been whenever I've visited.

Tried to be as impartial as I can... but obviously may be slightly swayed towards Trent. Any more questions about Trent feel free to message me if you want, and good luck choosing!

^From what i have seen there are alot of public school kids, which you wont get in Nottingham. But i would definitely choose Loughborough over Notts Trent (sorry, i did make it sound quite bad) ... The sports facilities are top quality, and with a new football stadium being built (opening soon) it will be even better. The main library on campus is amazing too, its really nice in there, unfortunately its too close to home, else i would be looking at exactly the same course as you at Lough.

I'm at Trent doing law, i chose it because i know it is good for law, even though it may not be that good overalll. So i think you should chose based on the area your studying rather than the uni's whole reputation.
Ive found Nottingham as a place great to live in, there is a good night life as a student, coming from London i wanted to be in a City environment, so Notts may have more in that sense than Loughborough. Although i havent actually been to Loughborough so i may be wrong.
Loughborough is ranked higher in the top 20. Although Trent is ranked lower its in the top 50 so its still pretty good. Nottingham is also more fun than Loughborough.
