    whoop whoop
i put 75% but (hate to admit this) i sat there and counted the squares... 15 for the nerve, 5 for the hormone...75%
    I like your style haha!

I wrote if you added up all the fragments when only partial digest had occured you would have more than the original, so maybe I've got one mark there! Haha, thanks for explaining
I said that...I said that there would be more fragments, and more longer fragments in the partial digest as the enzyme wouldnt have enough time to cut the DNA as partial digest is done in a short space of time? how many marks would i have got?

It's alright, AQA, it's not like I actually wanted to get into my uni place or anything...

My essay was actually atrocious!! I completely forgot mitosis and meiosis existed and only wrote about four cycles, which I probably got wrong anyway. *weeps*...
Awww here have some cake :cake: Cheer up though we'll probably only need about 50% for an A when they realise they've been sadistic *******s and most people couldn't answer half of it.

You've explained it a lot better than me so you'll probably get the 2 marks because you've actually gone into some detail about it Wouldn't take my word for it! I'm not great at biology haha

Yeah I assume it was one mark for realising it would be more than total, and other for explaining ^_^

I started with DNA introduction: degenerate, non overlapping, universal.
    Recombinant Dna technology( genetic engineering)
    Gene therapy,
In vivo &in vitro (somewhere squished between these two topic)
DNA finger printing ands its use ( forensic science, investigate diversity in species, jeremy kyle)
Irrelevent but I wrote about ethical issues surrrounding Recombinant dna tech and all those.. and then times up! Hoping for the best
I put exactly the same things as you for the essay, not much for the gene cloning though, bacause what does 'use' mean did they want how the process is done or how it affects medicine and stuff

what the was that one about hormones? it was worded really strangely and it confused me. like it said describe how hormones affect differently? it was something like that. what did people write?
Yeah, question 4a or something. I hated it. Wrote something about how hormones can affect different cells in different ways, like oestrogen stimulates production of LH and FSH in the pituitary and repairs the endometrium in the uterus. It was worded awfully.

the bit where it said evidence for why the stem cells where totipotent in thplant question was confusing - that means can specialise into any cell and there were only plantlets, caluus and leaves listed - isn't that multipotent?

    it was clearly 80% 2 units + 8 units = 10
    8/10 * 100 = 80...

They couldn't exactly list every single type of cell though... I think you're reading too much into it

hey this is what i thought i just put that it has potency because they are undifferentiated cells, yet it is totipotent as it can develop in a variety of other differenttypes of cell, there was nothing else you could have put?!!!

Before i forget: what did everyone put for why The lizards uptake of oxygen increased when it moved into hotter temps?

I put more enzyme activity/more atp needed/more o2 for respiration

also i noted there was a LOT of graphs to decipher in this exam

and using information from the graph to explain how it shows that volume was effected by nerve impulse? wtf was that all about! I just put that A was labelled as 'nerve impulse' and the Y axis was labelled as (whatever it was labelled as)
In the book it says they are more active at higher temps - so would need more O2 - but the Q said at rest

what were the two essay questions on again? I did the DNA one but to be honest, i reckon the cycle one would have been easier, but i didnt really understand the question for the cycle on

Well last year the examiners report says for the essay:

"There were occasional essays that were a pleasure to read. They had accurate and detailed
content and presented the underlying argument lucidly and coherently. Many of the essays
seen, however, were of poor quality."

And seeing as most people are loving both essay topics this year I assume that will boost the grade boundaries up. Then cancelled out by people struggling more with the paper. So overall maybe slightly lower, but wouldn't expect much of a change personally

I thought that! But I didn't want to leave it blank so I said the cells were totipotent because they developed into a number of different things it showed they could specialise into a number of cells.. Ugh I'm so stupid :')
