what did people put for the last 4 marker question?
I wrote about aerobic and anaerobic respiration. If there is no trachea then to produce energy, anaerobic respiration must occur which is why there was high enzyme activity. And then the opposite for the other enzyme
No Krebs cycle in anaerobic respiration etc

It was 2 our of 8. It was definitely 75%
Pretty sure it was something like how much of Gastric whatever volume was due to Nervous Response, the total gastric whatever was the Hormonal+Nervous, 8 units were Nervous, and 2 units were Hormonal at 1 hour after. Hence 8/10 units were nervous, 80%.

ohh same but for 4 marks???
They were talking about two enzymes, before and after the first 6 days. I put something like: Tracheae broken down initially -----> no oxygen -------> anaerobic favoured ------> lots of activity from enzyme B (or whichever one it was). then I put the reverse to make sure I got the marks.

but it doesnt say anyhting about the trachae reforming?
in the question it says after 6 days the trachea begins to reform.

What did people get for the question on naa. On why/how an increase in temperature leads to an increase in uptake of naa
I put the lower surface had stomata and when the temperature rose transpiration icrease, so more diffusion gradient for NAA to diffuse down (unit2). But I don't think that's 100% right I'm confused on that question

ohhh damn, think i got 2/4 then is said that eventually it starts to decrease becuase aerobic respiration slightly increases for that bit?

Gosh I think I might have lost lots of marks in the essay.
    I wrote about:

    DNA discovery
    Structure
    Recombinant Dna
    Genetically modified crops
( Productivity, yield, resistance and possibility of plants to be able to produce plastics (in the future)
/animals ( production of hormones anti throbin, vitamin A, resistance to disease) /microorganisms ( vaccines and use in the industry)
Gave various example for all of them.

Cure of diseases such Alzeihmer's and Cystic fibrosis ( I wrote a paragraph on how dna recombinant helps patients diagnosed with cystic)

    then I wrote about.
    Bacteria Powered batteries
    and use of dna techno
    in Forensic science.

and jumped to the ethical parts

Arguments for and against( a full page of them)
My own opinion at the end in the conclusion

BUT I FORGOT to talk about stuff like PCR,IN VITRO, VIVO,finger printing.

    KILL ME

the paper was horrid, all the questions were horrid so i ended up with about 70 - 80 mins to spare on the essay. i talked about all those which u say u missed but i completely forgot abt the recombinant and stuff...i cudnt put in anything from AS except MRSA and resistance and about yield and GM crops

really worried as i did the dna essay question, did what everyone else seems to be talking about but i thought the whole point is that its synoptic? i just did chapter 16 of unit 5, tried to talk about bases being complementary and tried to talk about proteins in protein synthesis but didn't mention anything from unit 4, only thing i mentioned from unit 2 was chromosomes ugh

i talked about stomata, cuticle and temeperature effect on the rate of diffusion for these questions??
what did people get for the difference in yield variables, and also on why tssue culture is better etc
yeah put all that too YEAH.

Sexual Reproduction involves fusion of gametes that have different genotypes
Offspring will be genetically different from their parents ( more varied? )
    therefore yiled might vary.

Genetically identical seeds produce a constant predictable yield
Which germinates during the same period.. blah blah blah

It was 2 our of 8. It was definitely 75%
The question asked for the % Nerve out of the TOTAL amount.

    Nerve amount = 8
    Hormone amount = 2
    Total amount = 8+2=10

    Therefore, it's 8/10 = 80%.

i put avoids the problems of seeds with dormancy so lots can be produced at the same time

Sweet baby charizard that question paper was hell

I actually started physically freaking out at the end, couldnt stop shaking! And I get extra time as well!

I thought the DNA essay was an alright topic but I was freaking so much that I dont think I got any written communication marks lol, was the same through the whole exam, often I found myself knowing what to write but not how to write it :/

For the DNA essay I put a cheeky reference to those guys in america who synthesised DNA and put it in a cell and a tiny bit about how it could be used for pretty much anything

Other than that though I feel like AQA screwed us all over

I need a B in Biology overall and Im not sure Im gonna get it now
gonna be wetting myself over this come results day
summin tells me im not getting into uni

If something came up about the heart/lungs/cells, then I would've done it easily. I'm not good with cycles, so just did whatever I knew of unit 5 genetics for this essay.
    cardiac cycle, pulmonary cycle, mitosis?

I put exactly the same things as you for the essay, not much for the gene cloning though, bacause what does 'use' mean did they want how the process is done or how it affects medicine and stuff
the latter one ,I think. How do we use the knowledge of DNA in science and technology? I dont think we were expected to describe the techniques.

Anyway I am avoiding the content on this thread as much as I can to avoid dissapointment.
