It's grapefruit not orange, the picture is the same as that of grapefruit on Wikipedia.

Something to do with geraniol, terpineol or grapefruit mercaptan I'm guessing...just musings though

for the silverites, it's the grapefruit chemical converting to the pine-tree chemical

now if only I knew what the scales meant in Gold...

I'm going to guess that X takes the place of the grapefruit, and Y takes the place of the flowers. X=Grapefruit mercaptan and Y=Terpineol. The only way X and Y are different is that there is a SH on X and an OH on Y. Maybe someone can adapt on this..

I'm pretty sure the link is terpenes, the flowers are lilac, the tree appears to be cedar, and the grapefruit is clear.

    EDIT: Much simpler than that.

My only problem is I can't handle the XY bit - I have very little idea of what they're looking for!
    A number, a formula, a chemical?
Otherwise I agree with most of the people above

Could be the formulae of the chemicals?

For entry: look at what happened in the years 1827 etc to do with electricity.

For silver: figure out how to get from one picture to the next, and what are X and Y.

Literally just do what the algebra suggests wrt to XY.

So we need to convert grapefruit mercaptan, a thiol, to terpineol, an alcohol...then we have to find out the meaning of the cryptic X and Y
