i can pretty comfortably do 40 pushups, and ive just set myself in a push up position, with my hands on my scale and it showed 48kg, so presumably i should be able to easily bench 50+ kg

but at the moment i can just do about 10 reps at 45 kg for 3 sets on a barbell bench, so does anyone know why this is, is my bench technique way off??

i weigh just less than 70kg and am 5,11 if that helps

im guessing as its at a different angle (more decline), you are doing a bigger ROM on the bench press, more stability needed on the bench press and youre not used to it so it takes time to adapt

Unless you have scales which are approx 0.75 of a meter in width your in the wrong position for both a bench press and a press up. Also scales are a measure weight not power or strength.

Let me put it in laymans terms: If i jump on my scales which go upto 320KG can i squat 320KG? Answer is no.

There will be almost no relation in the two things you are talking about.
