We can't have a military full of pussies, or 'conscientious objectors'. Before long our military will consist of gays and hippies planting flowers in the desert and dancing around in a circle singing bull**** hippie songs while our women and children get ****ed in the ass by terrorists from the middle east. This man should be ashamed at himself and even more so for suggesting people should 'stand up' against what they're supposed to do in their job; ie the one they signed up to do. ****ing retard.

They should just give him a dishonourable discharge and be done with it.. but from their PoV I bet they see it as him stealing education and their resources, and then buggering off without paying his dues (i.e. being deployed).

If they didn't punish people who went AWOL we wouldn't have a military and we wouldn't have a country (for more than one reason).
Being a medic means saving lives but all servicemen and women or at least most should and do know how to use a weapon.
To be honest if he thought he would only be saving lives and would never be in a position where he might have to take a life to save another then he is incredibly naive and misguided and he should not have joined up at all.

There's a difference between going AWOL and endangering your comrades / making yourself liable to capture and interrogation, against refusing to be deployed.

If he's entered into a contract then he would have to compensate breaking the contract in advance, but how should this be any different to any other job (whilst on home soil)?
He's a typical barrack room lawyer, looking for an excuse to avoid six months away from the UK, dressing it up as a moral position.

I imagine that he is terrified of deployment (perhaps with just cause!) and would bet that he has a "welfare issue" - girlfriend/wife problems, difficult relationship with family or similar. I'm sympathetic, but his problems won't be any worse than many of the other members of the Armed Forces who deploy without a fuss and do their duty.

As a medic, he may have been deployed to support our troops on the ground. We need as many medics as possible, as that first hour after injury is crucial to a wounded serviceman's survivial. If he's refusing rifle training, he would be a liability if he deployed, and lives could be lost because of him. There are no free rides, and on patrol in Afghanistan is not a place for passengers - I'm pretty certain that the Taliban wouldn't respect the little red cross on his arm. If he doesn't deploy, it means that there will be soldiers going into dangerous situations without the support of a trained medic.

Fact is, he chose to join the Navy, and he has received plenty of training, including expensive and specialist medical training. He needs to fulfil his side of the bargain and soldier, or he needs to be punished severely to make an example of him.
Idiot joins the ARMED forces expecting not to use fireARMS....

tl:dr, look at bold.

Discuss.

(Before you rep me, I am only posting an article and am so far neither for or against the topic in question)

I would say that to be a field doctor in the combat field you must be prepared to kill. This means being trained to kill.

Should not have joined in the first place.
Hahaha...what a muppet.

There are times that you can use the "Objector" card. But this is not one of them.

You sign up to the armed forces, then prepare to get trained in using arms against enemy's! END OF!

Medics are there to save folks, yes, BUT! they are also part of a fighting unit.

Why else do they issue drivers with 9mm sterling SMG's, after all, they cant shoot and drive.. (PS: Some of the guys I know of could.. easily, and still hit their targets).

This person should never have signed up, 10 years is a bit much, either put the muppet on barrack duty in the UK or kick his lame arse out with a Dishonarable Discharge and a bill for the costings of his trainings so far.

The military are there to train you up to be a part of the main force when required, you can not duck out at the prospect of being in the field!! Honestly!

And afore some of you start to try and slate me, am ex territorial army myself, with a medical discharge after 2 years.
