I'm friends with a guy at sixth form and we usually talk over FB chat. Since last week he started making jokes such as ''If you help me get an A in politics I'll marry you'', and when I told him I liked bands such as Lostprophets and Blue Ocober he said ''Arrgh, I can't be dating an emo girl, lol''.

How should I proceed with this?

How to you move your relationship forward, or how to tell him you're not interested?

He put "lol" at the end of the sentence.

There is an unwritten rule that states: If "lol" or emoticons that give off the same vibe are placed within a sentence, no matter how serious, severe or provocative it may appear at first, the sentence should be taken at least a tad more lightly as it suggests the individual is joking or does not wish for the statement to be taken too seriously.
