I live with 3 others in a flat. 3 of us pay the rent every month by direct debit into flatmate 4's account, and from his account it all goes to the landlord by direct debit. This has been fine for the past 8 months; however, one flatmate hasn't paid for 2 months and so there hasn't been enough money in the account for this month's rent, which we didn't find out until they called us up to tell us the rent hadn't been paid for March. We are therefore behind with one rent payment - it is getting paid tomorrow, so I'm not worried about getting kicked out of the flat or anything but I'm worried what problems this will cause me in the future. Because of this might I have problems renting a flat in the future? I'm worried that one stupid flatmate's mistakes will screw up me being able to rent in the future, and maybe affect my credit rating. Please help.

Your credit rating won't be affected in the slightest by this - though, depending on the bank, flatmate 4's account or that of your landlord may be fined for requesting/not honouring an existing direct debit?

You personally, shouldn't have anything to worry about - just tell your flatmate to get their act together?

Depends on the renting agency, some agencies have a database similar to a credit scoring system, so if your name is on the lease agreement, you may have something negative..... but generally very few landlords subscribe to this for residential lettings unless it's a fairly expensive place.
Is the Big Bang theory correct?
