Mock Exams - Worried

My Mock Exam's begin tomorrow, with a Food Tech 2 Hour exam and a History exam. I'm worried that I'm going to go into the exam with a blank mind, and just totally stuff up. I know that if I dont do well in these, then there's a possibility I could be kicked off the course and/or be entered for a lower exam. But what are the mock's like?

I'm under so much stress to do well, that I can't help but think I'm going to do bad. I'm pretty much sorted with most of my lessons, except Science which is a double award, and History which is just a total waste of time, I used to be good at it but as time went on I got worse.

So who else has got Mock's this week, and have you got any advice for getting through them?

I know exactly how you feel, because I'm in the same position. My mocks start next week tomorrow and I don't know how I can cope. I'm trying to revise at the moment, but either I get distracted or too disheartened at the stuff I have to do. I think I have a good foundation in most subjects, so even without revision I can probably scrape an A or a B... but I'm still really worried. :frown:

Anyway. I don't think the mocks alone will decide what tier you will be put in; they do play a role but if you've been capable of higher tier stuff throughout the year there's no way the teachers will put you in for foundation. How have you been doing since Year 10?

Eat a banana before the exam. Apparently there's some proven fact that it's good with nerves, lol. As for exams... plan your answers, especially for subjects like history and English. I've been told that 1 mark = 1 minute in History exams.

What other subjects are you doing? The ones I'm doing are in my sig.

Good luck on your Food Tech and History tomorrow!
My mocks begin tomorrow. I am not at all prepared! However you do, it will show you where you need to improve so either way and whatever grade you get its benificial. I havent had any time to revise as i have been loaded with coursework and deadlines. I was given the advice not to worry- its better to mess up now so you wont mess up in the real thing. How longs are your mocks spread over anyone? mine last for 2 full weeks!

The mocks will be much more stressful than the real thing because the exams are crammed together. When it comes to the real thing, you'll have one exam every day/every other day, and its spread over a few weeks, so it won't be as stressful. Hmm, am I helping with the stress?

Actually, that's a bit of comfort doctor_b. My exams are crammed into 2 weeks and 2 days, where in the first week, I have 3 exams a day, in the second week I have 2 a day and in the last 2 days I have a Music terminal and an German oral.

Mocks are really beneficial. However much you revise for them, you'll be able to see what you'd get if you did the same amount of work and perhaps be able to change your technique before the real exams. For me, they showed me that I didn't really need to revise much of certain subjects, but that for others I had to work extremely hard to get a higher grade.
The mocks will be very similar in style and timing to the real GCSE exams, but you'll only be asked questions on topics you've covered in class. They're designed to give you some experience of exam conditions and to highlight your weaknesses so you know where to focus your revision. The results will be used to a certain extent to determine which tier you're entered for in the real exam, but only in conjunction with classwork and attainment since the beginning of Year 10, so if you've always been an A/B grade student but screw up your mock and get a D, you'll probably still be entered for higher tier as long as you know where you went wrong and your teachers are sure you can correct it before the summer. Don't worry too much about them- most people improve by a grade before the real exams, coursework will be included for your final GCSE grades and mocks are often marked harshly by the teachers to scare you into working!
doctor_b thats really good advice!! I never though of that!! Thanks! its reassuring!

ok... mocks dont count. Seriously.

The marks you get in your mocks will b WAY lower than your actual GCSE grades. I mean, for a start, you have to count coursework into your final gcse grade, and you have to remember that by the time you have REAL exams, your teachers will have done 3 weeks or more's worth of revision lessons.

Anyway, basically, go into the mocks remembering that they dont count... all they do is give an indication of what you can achieve in the end. Your REAL grade will be higher.
i just had a mock today and it was utterly crap! dont wake up at 4am to revise:p:

ive decided that mocks are there to fail, but i dont want to have to study in my free periods so im hoping to get my predicted grade.
Our mocks will start on Thursday, although the languages(oral) have already finished. I have three exams (full timetable, no free time to revise) to do on the first day - maths(easy), english (no idea how difficult it is) and french listening (should be fine.)
However, on Friday, i only have bio in the afternoon so i can revise during the free periods=====i suk at biology
how long does your school's mock exam period last?? at our school it is two weeks so you like have exams everyday, most days 2 exams!

at my college its for one week :frown:
Don't worry about mocks, and I'm sure you'll be fine! Just keep on remembering that it's not the real thing, and if you badly muck up on something...well you're less likely to make the same mistakes in the Summer.
Plus...a lot of teachers say that your mock grades are always a lot worse than the ones they turn out to be.
For me, last year, mine were pretty accurate but I managed to improve without even trying much on several of them
Good luck!
i wouldnt worry about them although having said that, i still did a lot of cramming for my mocks last year. but seriously, they're not really that indicative of your final grade and from my experience, all of my friends go way (and by that i mean 2/3 grades up) highers grades in the real thing.
i'm doing my mocks too.

as expected i've left all my revision to the last minute, and i have weeks of art c/w to fit into one week :/

ah well.
I have a mate who is in year 12 now but last year in his mocks he got 7B's and 3C's but in the real thing he got 7A*'s and 3A's!! So mocks are never accurate in my opinion!
The mock has started

i have just screwed up my french listening...a really low mark although it was 2 marks off an A...

In the morning i did maths non-calculator (very easy) and English (never stop writting, finshed the last word in the last minute)
