Can't say for definite but as least one Birmingham medic has told me theres a little hierarchy in Birmingham:

Birmingham Uni > Aston > Birmingham City.
I guess so, but there is a minimal difference between aston and birmingham. and they're both better than BCU

I'm a Trent student, and there is a fair bit of 'banter' between us, yes they are the better uni, but we have the better nights out and it's always great to see their faces when we thrash them at varsity time!
Despite that though, it's all seen as friendly and a bit of a joke in my opinion, there's always uni of students at trent club nights, and we never really have any trouble... they just come cause we have the better nights and the better looking people

True. Uni of Leeds students look down on Leeds Met students. They don't mingle much at all. There's even a song about the difference in prestige / gulf between Uni of Leeds and Leeds Met.

''If you didn't get into Leeds go to Met'' (to the tune of 'If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands)!!
It's actually "If you can't go to Uni go to Met"> The Met students sing "I'd rather go to Met than be a c**t", to which we reply "I'd rather be a c**t with a job".

Leeds uni students also like to sing "Your dad works for my dad, your dad works for my dad, na na na na" at Met students.

    Yah, banterrrrrrrrrr

Well UCF and Exeter share a campus together in Falmouth. So they're in the same place and living together.
Exeter students generally respect University College Falmouth anyway; it's quite a specialised institution so a direct comparison can't be made. The fb groups are pretty funny though. Like 'The awkward silence when a UCF student complains about their workload' or 'The shocking moment when your boss realises your degree is from Falmouth'.

    Hey,
I was just wondering, do those at say Oxford, Sheffield, Manchester etc socially interact with people at the lower ranked uni (Oxford brookes, Hallam, Manchester Met) or do you just generally stay with people at your own uni?

My cousin went to oxford brookes and said that the majority of oxford students didnt really bother with those who werent from oxford themselves.

    Thanks!
Ermm. I don't think it's so much a case of 'looking down on'.
If you get two universities in the same city, generally they'll share the same nightlife and interact. Then you get somewhere like Warwick uni which is actually in Coventry, so what usually happens is Coventry students party in Coventry city and Warwick students party in Leamington Spa. But sometimes we go into Coventry too.
There's banter between the two unis, mainly based around the lower grade requirements for Coventry, but it's harmless fun really. We have Varsity sports matches against them, so of course we're going to make fun of them and presumably they make fun of us too. There's no hatred there, I don't think.

I hadn't even heard that chant before this thread...
Doesn't really work on me anyway, my Dad owns his own company
Oh by the way, care to review the scores from this past varsity series? :P

I go to De Montfort University in Leicester and i'm beyond surprised at how intense our rivarly is. Being a football fan myself i'm used to big rivalrys between my football team and our rivals, so i was quite pleased with the intensity of it all, but its beyond silly sometimes. Uni of Leicester look down on us massively but they're absolutely bloody awful at dishing out banter, they just gie us the usual, you're a crap stupid uni chants and we have a whole host. Its commonly known amongst DMU students that Leicester uni is absolutely full to the brim of stuck up posh students, one of my favourite chants at UOL is You can stick you silver spoon up your arse. We absolutely despise eachother, at our varsity football game they segregated the two unis with a police pressence, for the rugby they didnt do this and it was incredibly tense and there were several bust ups were i was sat and they had to bring stewards to surround both sets of fans. Also on the battle of the uni bar crawl its incredibly tense, the only time ive ever been beaten up in my lfie was in what i can only call a small riot outside our SU at the end of the night, three UOL students kicked surrounded me and kicked the **** out of me admittedly. I've visted several of my friends unis and i can honestly say our Rivarly is the feircest.

Don't worry, I'm on your side. My brother went to Anglia Ruskin, my sister to middlesex, and I'm going to an arts college.

I live in Cambridge myself and I got looked down by Cambridge student because I decided to firm University of Essex.... =.= She was like 'why would you go there?' ... Adn I was like Essex is ranked higher than Cambridge according to RAE(for Politics) .. =.= I just want to do the degree at the uni that is great at it.Of course Cambridge graduate would probably get picked at the job interview but still, I would not go to Cambridge even if I had high grades - i lived there for years and I worked at the restaurant near Newnham college which majority of our customers are the students and many of them are just snobs. =.=

They all are not like that though. I am just yet to see the one that does not act so snobby when being surrounded by people who dont go to uni or who go to lower ranked uni. :P

I really dont get it though. If you dont like someone, you might as well just keep it quiet. No need to be nasty to them.

As someone already said your title doesn't match you post, most people don't look down on them. It's probably about as bad in both directions. But there's hardly any chance for socialising
Brookes and us have separate club nights, sports teams, mostly live quite far away.

I think it's inevitable, a bit. But I haven't heard anything thus far about too much bitter feeling between universities...is there?

This is so pathetic. I hadn't even heard of this childishness until I started using TSR. I wouldn't judge someone going to a higher uni for being a 'snob' so what gives them the right to judge me?

In real life i've not noticed a different in treatment, its just TSR. It's full of pretentious prats who couldn't get their head further up their own arse if they tried - regardless of what uni they go to.
