For the short time I lived at home whilst working (admittedly only a couple of weeks) I didn't pay either, but i used to help around the house more than previously (cooking, cleaning etc).

Unless they have specifically asked for an amount, then id say, look at how much it would cost you to rent locally and then take some off that. So if local rent was say 250pcm then maybe offer to pay 150 or something like that?

It's only fair to pay your share of the bills, as that is actually the cost of your living there. But you could argue that it's unfair for your parents to ask for more on top of that (i.e. actually paying rent).

So maybe you could work out roughly how your share of the electricity/gas/water/food is.

    Thanks, that's a good idea

Why don't you ask your parents?
