Manchester has been voted as having the best live music scene in the UK.

The poll, conducted by PRS for Music, asked 3,000 participants: "Do you have enough local gigs in your area?"

The northern city came out on top with 77% of the people asked answering, "Yes".

"Local live music gigs are a great way to bring communities together and for people to discover local talent," said Barney Hooper, a spokesman for PRS for Music.

"Manchester has always been a hot contender as music capital of the UK, but we also thoroughly encourage venues in the surrounding areas, such as Derbyshire, to seek local talent and host more live gigs."

Newcastle claimed the runner-up spot with Nottingham, Lancashire and London coming in third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

The places named as having the worst music scenes were Derbyshire and Somerset.
    Manchester over London?

Derbyshire and Somerset (home of the Wurzels don't forget) at the bottom?

    Any thoughts?
