Yeah, and it feels really unnatural for me. I think the situation is improving though (at least for those that aren't immature about the issue). We don't yet have the same liberal society that some of the other European countries do, but it's only a matter of time.

    3) A friend of mine went to Norway, met a Norwegian girl and went back to hers, her mother said to them, "Here, do you want this big bed? Its much more comfy, and we'll leave the pair of you alone". And he'd only known her for a few hours.
Now I know my next country to go away to

Well, I don't know about Holland. There are sex shops all over the spot in Delft and The Hague.
Hell, I went past one on a bus and in the time it took us to go around a corner and down the street a ways there was like 20 people went in.
In other countries, yeah; but I was aiming at Holland predominantly.
We have sex shops here. And the presence of them doesn't mean that you wouldn't get odd looks reading Hustler on the train.

    Hmm, potentially.

However, I'd feel more comfortable doing so in Holland, then here.

Oh yeah, they're very liberal about sex over there compared to us.

Still, I think we underestimate how okay we are with it these days. We have prime-time TV shows specifically about being frank about sex. The only people with a problem is those pesky religious types.

I saw a man reading The Sun on the tube once, he took great care to position his fingers so that the topless woman's nipples weren't visible, it was funny.

Yeah I agree mostly, but then in some ways I'd miss the sleazy feel of places like Soho (and bits of Shoreditch) if everywhere was like that.

We've not yet gotten over our Victorian forebears' inhibitions in some ways, but we are becoming steadily more sexualised in others.
Explicit images were banned from pornography until 1999 (convicted under the Obscene Publications Act), but are now legal; R18 DVDs are still restricted to licensed shops to protect the sensibilities of the more easily offended and those shopping with children. It is shown and spoken about more on TV and the idea of keeping sexual matters secret, "not washing dirty laundry in public" has lost credibility.
