    So the changes the laws could make are:
    • They can create legislation based on enviromental issues which org. will have to abide by
    • GOvernments can give rewards to companies who introduce scrappage schemes for ICT equipment so org. can make a possible profit
    • Offer subsidies so more companies are willing to adopt enviro-friendly policies

    is that right? Are there anymore things the law could do??

    Could someone please give a definition of outsourcing and offshoring, and their benefits/limitations?
    Outsourcing = the transfer of a function of an organisation to an external company that provides this service

    Offshoring = the transfer of an organisational function to another country, regardless of whether the work is outsourced or stays within the same corporation

    Here are the definitions Sorry but I don't have the benefits and limitation typed up but off the top of my head I know a couple

    Outsourcing;
    + Improved quality - service is specialised
    + Availiability - staff likely to be more available and are picked to be the most suited
    + Economics of sale = buy more = will be cheaper overall
    +Improved risk management - hire a specialist to advise on back-up and recovery

    Offshoring;
    + may be cheaper - call centres in India is an example, but this leads to problems because of cultural, legal and accent problems
    + specialist skills may be more readily available
    + communication costs higher
    + jobs may be valuble to local community

    Hope this helps!

    Could someone please give a definition of outsourcing and offshoring, and their benefits/limitations?
    Outsourcing: Giving activity to another company to do. Could be here or abroad..

    + Cheaper and better quality
    + The other company might be more specialised in that particular field, and task could be carried out on larger scale.. saves money so you don't have to invest in specialised equipment etc.
    - No control so you have to maintain a good relationship with that company therefore monitoring costs go up.

    Offshoring: Moving the activity to an offshore location:

    + Costs - cheaper labour
    + Business can grow overseas
    - Different quality risks
    - Lack of control offshore

    Could someone please give a definition of outsourcing and offshoring, and their benefits/limitations?
    Outsourcing - is when a business contracts another to carry out a particular task for it. For example a law firm may ask a IT company to manage their network facilities so that the lawyers can concentrate on legal matters and do not have to worry about repairing machines or installing software. The company is buying the confidence and peace of mind that comes with knowing that their ICT equipment is secure and running as requested. Benefits could be that by outsourcing the company that provide this service would be aware of the latest technological developments and could recommend cost saving technology. So it improves quality, cost benefit, (not to sure on limitation) maybe if the company does not have the expenditure that they cannot afford to outsource so they have to rely on current staff members perhaps.

    Offshoring, right it is to do with companies having more than one site in more than one country for example. They may have a head office in one country, call centers in another and production facilities somewhere else. This will reinforce that the communication channels needs to be precise so that each site knows exactly what they rest are doing. The head office needs to know what is being produced and whether demands can be met. The call centers need to be confident in what they are telling the client's over the phone can be delivered and the production outlet needs to know how much to produce. Again communication has to be excellent as expensive errors can be made if not. Many specialist companies work in this way, there is a mainland presence of the manager and high level analyst that liaise with the client face to face, although one or two large companies have a team of developers that work assigned to one project or client at a time.

    The limitations are that communication has to be superb
    There may be language barriers
    There may be different legislation abroad
