    Hey,

    I've got the following integration down in my notes:





    where is the derivative of position in generalised coordinates - T is actually the kinetic energy of a ladder slipping down a wall.

    Could anyone suggest how that result follows from the original integral!? Thanks!

    What you've written doesn't make sense to me. You have \displaystyle \int_0^{2a} \underbrace{\frac{1}{2}\lambda ds}_{\text scalar} \underbrace{(-(s-2a)\sin \theta \dot{\theta}, s \cos \theta \dot{\theta}})_{\text vector} which is going to be a vector quantity, but the answer you are looking for is a scalar.

    (I suspect we also need to know the connection between your generalised coordinates and the cartesian ones, but I might be wrong).
