Please don't move mods I would like people to choose to go anon if they wish.

When I was reading the "I'm too ugly" thread and OP mentioned BDD I was wondering if I had that since I have depression, anxiety and low self esteem when it comes to the way I look I hate looking at the mirror and taking pictures with friends because I always look like crap even though people say I'm pretty but I don't believe them since I've never had a boyfriend.
But the guy I like is painfully shy, I'm shy too but I do talk to him mainly about work but sometimes he looks pissed off so I don't talk to him then (so I wanted to know more about his behaviour)

Anyway I was searching about it and came across "Love shyness" because it's linked with anxiety and came across points that might be linked to it.

-mainly have female siblings (I thought it would be the opposite but maybe because they are likely to be more sensitive)
    -more violent fantasies
-were very pessimistic and cynical about the world
-were much more likely to believe that nobody cared about them
-Some might stare compulsively at women with whom they were infatuated
or even stalk them (I'm not a stalker LOL)
-More likely to be friends with females
-frequent feelings of depression, loneliness and alienation
    -addictions of various types
    -School bullying
-Parental upbringing including verbal abuse, criticism, 'put-downs', negative comparisons
-love shy heterosexual males are assumed to be homosexual, so homosexual guys are likely to make advances on them but they get rejected.

The guy I like even though I don't know anything about his personal life but the things I do know is
    - He stares all the time when I see him, where ever we are he's always staring, even though I assume I have something on my face (But I don't mind because I like him anyway )
-He is mainly friends with females even though he does have male friends but more female ones
-He always looks pissed off, and he normally is on his own which makes my eyes sad :cry2: But he looks pissed off so I don't know if he wants me to go and talk to him even though I do if he's next to me.
-He smokes a lot but could just be the nicotine
-I did thought at first that he was gay but now I realised he's just painfully shy and his gay friend tried it on with him, but he rejected him and stopped talking to him

But I wanted to know if any other love shy guys especially from painfully shy guys are similar to the points above.

If you're a girl who knows a love shy guy or painfully shy guy your comments are welcome.

    Please no trolls

Edit don't know why I'm being negged :unimpressed:

OP, the guy you mentioned is EXACTLY what i was like two years ago. Looking angry even when i'm fine, staring at people, having loads of female friends, often on my own, heavy smoker. I honestly checked the date to make sure someone hadn't bumped this thread from 2009 and it was originally about me! I can relate to a lot of those points you made too..

He may look pissed off but you can't tell for sure unless you go up and talk to him. Since he's painfully shy you'll probably have to initiate conversation all the time but eventually he'll open up to you and you can go from there. Its pointless telling him you like him right away as he'll probably assume you are joking or feel sorry for him.

I met a girl in a similiar situation you're in through mutual friends and she did wonders for my confidence.. i'm a really confident person nowadays and she played a massive part in that. Getting a shy person to open up is bloody hard work but more often then not its totally worth the effort. Give it a go.

Shy girl comments are spot on btw. There's definitely something about them. :sogood:
The guy I like just now always looks angry yet I had this feeling he liked me! The weird thing is, sometimes I see him standing alone even when friends were around. What's that about? Any insight would be great

Also, I want to go up to this guy but he always looks pissed off as well, despite the fact he looks at me from a distance. As soon as I'm close he just looks really annoyed, which knocks the original confidence I had from him looking if you get me..although I've seen him laughing and joking with friends.

Yeah shy guys tend to be the best tehe I think your right with the exploding confidence! He's still a little shy around everyone else but get him alone and PHWAOR. Sorry I could rant here :P

I guess we instantly clicked and have always had a bit of banter going on between us but he didn't open up to me and become a close friend until after a year, then I worked on it and eventually he admitted to me that my confidence turned him on so that means as well as being close friends were good lovers as well as were crazy about each other after suppressing it for so long!
Thats really nice to hear, i love hearing stories like this. How long have you two been together? More girls (and guys!) shouldn't be so quick to dismiss shy people. Its a lot of effort getting them to open up to you, but once they do you'll usually end up with a good friend.. or even something more.

He sounds slightly introverted... lots of people are like that in the sense that they need some time by themselves after socialising. Its a bit unusual that he's still standing near to them though, maybe they were having a convo about something he couldn't really join in with/made him uncomfortable.

Have you tried going up to him? I know how daunting that can be but at least you'll know how he's feeling. I'm sure he'll be friendly but if he does respond negatively then whatever you do don't go thinking there is something wrong with you, some people just want to be left alone.

I can't really help you but I have a similair thing happen to me with a girl I liked in my lecture. She wasn't really my type and I wasn't sure why I was attracted to her, I usually like confident small and hot brunette girls. She was basically the opposite of this, tall blonde hair and really cute and shy and she had a lovely soft southern accent. I'm not local and I think she must have grown up around Kent from being young as she has the the nicest local accent I've heard. I'm still not sure why I like and intrigued by her so much, but I guess the fact that I'm quite shy aswell doesn't help things.

Limit to how awkwardly cute they are. If they blush and get all tongue-tied, then yeah. But if they just stand there and don't reply when I talk to them..

    Oh I see.

I doubt no-one would reply to you if you talk to them, though.

No, whenever I look at him to smile he just looks the other way really fast, so I can't even catch his eye to then say hello unless far away. I've made the situation worse now by adding him on Facebook. He accepted pretty much straight away but we haven't spoken since...now if I ever do get to talk to him face to face it's not like I can ask his name or pretend not to know much about him, ha ha! Awkward.
