    When naming ketones, do we do as in alkanes for example when counting the longest chain of unbranched carbons, and then starting the count from the side that we can through reach the branch with the least number of carbons?

    Do we in ketones start counting from the side that makes us reach the carboxyl group with the least number of carbons, or, how exactly does it work in ketones?

    number from whichever end gives you the smallest numbers. So 2-pentanone, not 4-pentanone
