Considering that it's not an Ivy or even a Stanford, where would Northwestern stand in terms of international academic reputation?

Is it on par with MIT? UC Berkeley? or perhaps Duke, U. Chicago, UPenn?

What do people across the pond know of Northwestern?

    Great school.

But saying that before I looked into Phd's and the US unis I had no idea about. I strongly doubt many random people off the street know it, and even most uni students will not know it either.

    I've heard of Northwestern...

But then I know more random things than the average person.

My friend goes there and she says it's on par, though of course reputationally you're better off going to a school that everybody and his dog knows.

With those in the know, I am sure it's well known.

It's a choice between UPenn and Northwestern.

Which one is more well known?

For what? For journalism, I'd go for Northwestern, for everything else, probably UPenn.

UPenn cos it's an Ivy- which means it better recognised imo

NorthWestern - Masters in Public Administration, Urban Planning

UPenn - Applied Gesocience; Environmental Geology GIS

Which one sounds more like a more lucrative venture?

UPenn, but only bc of the program you picked. Even geology from Texas A&M>>Northwestern MPA

No, not really. But more so than Northwestern. Northwestern is also the second best in Illinois, to UChicago.

Tbf, most American don't even know what the ivy league is and what unis are in it (aside from HYP). So unless the international individual concerned with Penn was told it was an ivy, it doesn't really mean much.

It's hardly Harvard or whatever, but definitely a good school.

Northwestern is a great university, coming from a UPenn student, but it's not on par with UPenn.
UPenn is a great uni, great international rep, I'd say it's mid-ranked for the Ivy's.
I'd say Northwestern is on par with Duke. Not quite chicago or berkeley but still a sickk uni.

Being totally honest, for Geoscience, I'd pick MIT and Berkeley over UPenn (Earth Sci) and Northwestern.

Northwestern being the bottom of the pile, but a great university nevertheless.

It's not quite Harvard but in a few cases it's at least equivalent to Oxford and Cambridge, sorry to throw it out there.

A middle ivy student feels the need to compare himself to Oxbridge, why?
