Hey the Dr is cool about it! I was a little nervous about it at first but I've been to the Dr for equally embarrasing things...you just need to think that there are people going to the Dr about far more embarrasing situations!Rennies are quite good, I carry some round with me just incase the bloating becomes really really bad (sometimes I feel as though my tummy is going to burst). My mum even asked me if I was pregnant!!!!!!!!

there's nothing too embarrassing to see a doctor about.

once i thought i had testicular cancer so i went to the Dr.'s and for some weird reason i had a woman doctor appointment which i'd never had before. so i had this good looking young female doctor squeezing my balls for 10 minutes or so

lol....see...all is not bad
So go and get checked!

thx for the advice guys  i will see what i can do

Hey guys, out of interest, what do you personally do or take to help your urges and need-to-go? Because so far the meds are doing pretty good with bloating, wind and making it easier to 'pass' but nothing is helping with the urgencies-to-go :frown:
Any suggestions, personal experiences or advice?
Greatly appreciated.

I don't take anything for my 'urges.' It's quite annoying because I have to suddenly stop whatever I'm doing and run to the nearest loo.

Reply 26

oh, this is bad...Has anyone ever had the 'urges' during a exam and had to leave?

I have exams coming up very soon....next week:s-smilie: and so far i'm taking exams in a seperate room. I'm just worrying about what happens if i 'need to' during it? Teacher told me, i could go if i needed to, but it would take off a few minutes in my exam time :frown: ....i'm not so concerned about it as this is my mocks examination...but what about the REAL thing :frown: :frown: :frown:...yes, i have common sense to go before the exams take place, but i get urges again within 45 mins of last going.

Please post any experiences, would help.

Cheers

Health is more important. You couldn't possibly concentrate in an exam if you felt the need to go. So just go and see how you get on with the exam afterwards.

i hate exam periods, nerves makes it worse i think?

Reply 29

I have Crohns disease, technically IBD but similar. I PMed.
I agree.. nerves do make it worse.

defo. I think a lot of the urges my be in the mind. They're still awful though.

Reply 31

sometimes for me, i know it is just the mind playing tricks...but i do need to go eventually...on the otherhand, i know most of the time, it's real urges. My urges tend to be quite bad in the morning...go in the morn before school, go again when i get to school, and go again after break or lunch. :frown: But the worse to come is the MORNINGS, specially around the 9 o'clock time. I have exams around 9 o'clock...just perfect really isn't it...hmm...ye....my health is more important than exams...i can cope with the ibs symptoms....just not with the urges...*sighs*, i'll cope...i've been coping for years....this is no different...

I've had the symptoms, but I've always had a fairly odd stomach - randomly developing intolerances occasionally ( like a whole almond would actually kill me now!). I guess if I have got it it's not as bad as most people. I've been to the doctors a few times and they've just given me a diet sheet, and tell them what happens :s-smilie: They don't seem too bothered. But like you've said, it's uncommon in people under 25, and i'm only 19

Yeah I have to visit the loo during every meal I eat. It's really embarrasing! I have to be very careful with what I eat and I stick to things like Bran Flakes and brown bread.

Have you tried cutting bran out of your diet? It is a common misconception amongst both doctors and the general public (especially the media) that bran is a good source of fibre, especially for those with IBS. This is largely incorrect as bran (and other wheat fibres) are insoluble fibres, which at best have little or no effect, and at worst actually aggravate the symptoms of IBS.

You may see a benefit from trying insoluble fibre such as cellulose (found in legumes, seeds, root vegetables, and vegetables in the cabbage family).

Also, if you smoke, the nicotine will stimulate your gut, making you more prone to the bowel pain of IBS. The same is also true of caffeine and tannin (both found in tea, so cut down on this too if you drink it - not to mention that lactose intolerance is fairly common amongst IBS sufferers, so milk may not be best for you).

One positive in this doom and gloom is that alcohol actually relaxes the muscles of the gut - so it's down the pub with you quick sharp ok

I don't smoke...never even touched a cigarette! The bran in my diet has actually helped and the Fybogel drinks (high in fibre too) are good too. It's just certain foods that I have to avoid. Plus my Dr told me to avoid alcohol (I don't really drink anyway) at all costs. The last time I drank alcohol I really paid for it the next day.

You don't have to be diagnosed with ALL syptoms, it affects people differently, but the main ones i would think would be, irregular bowel movements, pain in abdominals and bloating/wind. The doctors would look into it a bit more if your case was long-standing...at least 12 weeks i think.

Hope this helps you.
