Was going to call it "VC Vs VC's (with his CV?)"
but I thought no one would read it.
anyway Vince Cable savages Vice Chancellors for announcing £9000 fees - which was what most people apart from Vince predicted they were going to do as soon as the new fee cap was announced.
There's historic precedent as same thing happened before with the lower cap and politicians predicted at that time that a variety of fees would be set and a healthy looking competitive market would emerge, then virtually all set their fees to the max as well.
Vince is a Cambridge Graduate with a PhD in economics and has worked as a lecturer at LSE - he's supposed to be a super slick economics boffin with inside knowledge of higher education, how could he not see the £9000 fees coming in (virtually) across the board?
Why TF is vince surprised?
Is it that our oxbridgian overlords aren't actually that clever, are they westminster bubble-dewllers who are out of touch with the realities of everyone else in the country or is Vince playing us and in fact he knew exactly what the £9000 cap meant but he's just expressing shock about it for political reasons.
I'd prefer not to have another discussion about which uni's have announced £9000 fees or whether they're affordable - there's plenty of threads for that already, just wondering why our leaders seem to be so bad.
