I'm graduating Uni and moving to London for my grad job (well actually in 2012- taking a year out before that) and I'm looking to find a real gym to train at. In fact to be precise, the thing I seek is an athletic strength&conditioning facility, not a Virgin Active/Fitness First type treadmill-o-rama.
Obviously London's a big place and I won't be going to train at the other side of town but I'm flexible in my accommodation and as such, I want to be aware of what are the good facilities in London to train at.
One place I found was Lee Valley: http://www.leevalleypark.org.uk
It seems to be at a reasonable distance from the town center (will be working in finance so City/Canary Wharf is where I'll be) and its got exactly the kind of weight room I want: http://www.rubiconsports.co.uk/default.asp?page=197
Has anyone been there and do they allow the general public into the weight room?
And what other similar facilities (what I require are a power rack and Olympic platform, the rest is of little concern to me) are there?
Price is not an issue but I don't want it to be too crowded or too far away/hard to get to.

The two 'hardcore' gyms usually recommended are Muscleworks and Genesis. Neither of them are near the Canary Wharf. Credit Suisse has a gym in Canary Wharf and I assume that they must have a power rack, if not a platform. Sorry I can't really be of more help than that.

Muscleworks is easy to get to from Canary Wharf though.

Mates been to muscleworks... apparnetly its relatively small and overcrowded.
How flexible on location are we talking? If you want a platform... inside a proper weightlifting club with coaches... your looking at living in southwest or east London.
in SW there's
Woking - http://www.windowonwoking.org.uk/sites/weightlifting
Guildford (st marys uni) - http://www.foxwoodwl.co.uk/
Epsom and surrey - http://suttonweightlifting.webnode.com/
In central London the only platforms really are going to be in super expensive health clubs...
There's a fair few in east london too
