# Stats help watch

1. We've been given a set of poll data and asked to do a classical hypothesis test. Basically me and a friend disagree on the method. I have done it

Ho: mean=0.5
Ha: mean =/= 0.5

I did it this way

1.53-0.5/sqrt(0.5^2/n)

My friend has found the standard deviation of the data and done

1.53-0.5/std dev

who is right and why
2. If 1.53 is the value of a sample mean then the first way is more appropriate, since you have used the distribution of the sample mean to standardise.
