Ok basically my bf has been working as an unqualified teacher in a small private school for like 4 years now but now thinking of settling down and the salary isn't really high enough. However, he really loves the school.

    He teaches secondary maths.

    My questions are
    1. can he move to a state school without being qualified with a few years experience?

    2. What ways can he train while remaining in the school? He really hates esssays and can't understand why he has to write essays to teach maths (hence why he never completed his pgce in the first place).

    What options does he have?

The GTP might be useful for him, you train for a year in a state school. Along a similar route he could also consider Teach First.

Private school experience is pretty much useless for standard schools though, as it doesn't follow the national curriculum, and you need to prove you have a solid knowledge of that.

Check out the TDA website, they might have some more useful info.

Afaik if you're teaching, you can gain QTS if you can provide evidence for it in the same way that you would on a pgce. You would probably need the backing of the school, as they would need to do observations and such. As above, best thing to do would be contact the tda

4 years! Thats a long time, the school should have offered him a GTP by now they are basically getting a teacher on the cheap, if they won't offer him a GTP he should do one elsewhere
