Not allowed a TV in my room watch

I'm 19. My family and I moved into a new house a few months ago, but in my new room I'm not allowed a TV. Is this weird for a 19 year old not to be allowed a TV in his/her room? Literally all my friends have a TV in their room and they laugh when I tell them I'm not allowed one. Most of them spend hundreds on cigarettes, alchohol and drugs, whereas I can't even spend just over £100 (which I have saved) on a TV. My parents aren't even that strict, it's just this weird rule they have, "no TV's upstairs".

Any ideas how I can convince them that it's really not that bad?

I'm not allowed a TV in my room either (and I'm 18). I didn't think that this was that peculiar :dontknow:

Tell them you don't get babestation on freeview so they have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't want a television in my room - just another distraction (way of procrastinating).

Ask them why they don't want you to have one, and argue against their reasons?

Can't you just watch TV on your computer, if what you want to watch clashes with what someone else wants to watch?

Can't because my internet is crap. So it stops to buffer every 10 seconds.

I just watch the TV online, and I also have a slingbox that is connected to the TV downstairs anyway. I think if I had a proper TV I'd be so distracted, it's bad enough with a computer!

Well they don't literally laugh. But they think it's weird.

Considering i have my PC rig in my room i bought a hybrid monitor / tv.

If you have wifi and a iOS device or a netbook / laptop / pc in your room then you can stream on tv catchup, or buy a tv tuner for your pc.

Honestly i rarely watch tv, i just catch up later

Yeah my parents were like this for a long time, though by the time I was 18 it had all become a bit pointless. Anything I used to watch on TV, I now watched on iPlayer or downloaded, considering I had my own laptop from the age of 16 onwards.

Does it continue to pause and buffer, even if you let it load? I usually click onto a stream and leave it for an hour to load fully.

You could always get a freeview/cable/sky box which allows you to record programmes, too. My family had to upgrade to one which could record two programmes at the same time, despite there being an obscene number of TVs in this house.

Nope, I've never had a TV in my room...I don't see the point when I can just watch it downstairs or online.
