Ah you didn't apply for IBAM?

I was gonna put Durham as my insurance but when I went to visit I hated their business department. The campus was a big disappointment too so I'm thinking of putting Aston down both as my firm and insurance and since my offers for the both courses are the same if I don't get the required grades I'd have to take a gap year. I'm pretty confident I'll get the grades though so it's all good.

You don't strictly do BAM for the first year, it is a common first year but all the paperwork will still list IBAM as your programme and then the modules that you took. There are slight differences, e.g. LLB Law with Management shares some modules with BAM etc but does not have the common first year (more law obviously and they don't do QT/BDA etc) and thus they can't transfer programme at the end of the first year. There are other differences, mainly in the Economics modules studied; HRM and some others take Economic Environment of Business which is a single module which covers in less detail both micro and macroeconomics and is studied on the combined honours business course.

Any more questions, feel free to ask.

I do BAM currently on placement year - enjoy your first year best yr of uni !!! its so generic its all the intro modules. its second and final yr you specialise for your degree

I agree with gem89 - I am a final year student (BSc (Hons) HRM) - The first year can be the best and the worst - best in terms of the amount of free time you have to explore student life, but worst in terms of how generic the business streams are. But they have to be in 1st year to give you a firm grounding in all disciplines, which opens up the choice to you to change you degree programme if you don't think the one that you're currently on is right for you. I personally loved 2nd year. It's a steep learning curve but you start to specialise and really get a grasp of your chosen areas of business, you're already settled in and then can look forward to placement year - which will be life changing!

Good luck to you all in your exams. Aston University is a great choice. When I was applying for placements also, the reputation of ABS spoke volumes
