Not sure where this should be posted.

If I take 'voluntary suspension' does that unclassify me as a student for this period that I take suspension for? So that if financial struggles hit I can apply for some sort of job seekers benefit. I can't graduate at this point due to outstanding coursework and I maybe not be so lucky with employment if I take this break.

Things haven't been going to well for me this year and I am just curious of this.

    Thanks in advance,

Yup. If you suspend your studies, you will not officially be a student. You will be liable for council tax so make sure you apply for council tax benefit so you don't have to pay if you're a low earner/out of work. You may also be entitled to housing benefit for help with your rent and yes you can get JSA if you're actively seeking work.

Bear in mind that if you receive grants, some/all of these may need to be repaid if you're not studying for a full year and also you'll lose student loan on a pro-rata basis for the period of the suspension.
