In accordance with the current deluge of threads about shy guys and shy girls, I'd like to ask a question that concerns both - can shy people ever really have proper relationships?

I would consider myself shy, as do most others, and I don't think I'd be confidence ever to even be myself with someone that close. Are any others shy with their partners?

Do you think shy people can ever have proper relationships?

I've been with my boyfriend for almost 7 months and I am extrememly shy, shy to the point of anxiety that I start randomly shivering, but things are improving the more time we spend together, and I think shy people can have proper relationships if their partner is understanding and willing to take things slowly.

There will always be a reason for your shyness and you just have to locate it.

Eg. Do you think you look ugly and are shy because you think more attractive people are better than you? Do you have trust issues with people, like have you been screwed over by people in the past? Are you shy because you think you're a boring person with no real hobbies, you don't want people finding this out and you'd rather hide behind a veil of mystery? Is it because you have no friends and don't want people finding out you're unsociable? Are you worried about your lack of sexual experience and you don't want people finding out?

These are just some of the reasons people can be shy. I believe some people are more quiet than others, and that can't be helped, but shyness (in particular painful shyness) will ALWAYS have a reason/some reasons behind it.

All of those you mentioned. What's a cure?
