Could you use buffer solution? But how would you use it? Do you simply add it to the reactants?

How you use it depends on the particular experimental set up. For example, if you're doing an enzyme assay, you'd dissolve your enzyme and substrate in buffer. If you're doing cell culture, you'd add the buffer to the media, etc.
