Is it likely that next year (2012 entry) that there will be many people applying for deferred entry in 2013 in order to take a gap year and accumulate some funds?

Is this the case as potentially this means less competition, albeit very minimal?

I can't see why that would be the case, apart from those few people who get discouraged due to the high fees and not thinking properly about the fact that they get loans for all of it. Since most of the competitive med applicants would be the kind to do that kind of research (along with all their other application research), I can't see the competition getting less tough. Just my two pence though. Certainly it may cause many grad med applicants to postpone their applications due to having to pay fees upfront.
