# Another Electric Field watch

1. A positivel charge rod is lowered in a cylindrical metal can without touching it. The can is standing on the ground, a conducting surface. Exaplin how the can becomes charged.

The can becomes charge becuase the electrons in the can are attracted to the positively charged charged rod. A negative charge is induced in the can. This flow of electrons is possible because the ground is conductive. As opposite charges attract the can and the rod are attracted to each other.

Then there is just a drawing of a negative can and positive rod with field lines going towards the can.

I would have said something along the lines of :

The positively charged rod attracts the metal can's electrons towards as shown in the diagram (insert diagram).

Electrons from the earth the flow up through the conductive metal can and neutralise any positive charge in the can.

If the can is placed on a wooden table BEFORE withdrawing the rod it will be negatively charged.
