Hey,

I'm starting the BSc (Hons) Children's Nursing at Bucks in September. I guess we'll have some lectures together so I'll see you around
Hey again!

Aw thanks XxLady LeexX, what's the course like? What placement are you doing and are you enjoying it? Hope so
Olivia-aok - Yeah I guess we will have some lectures together so that'll be cool.
Do you both live near to Uxbridge at the moment? Or are you going to be looking for accommodation? I'm going to be looking for somewhere to live and I have no idea where to begin, it seems so expensive! Not sure what my student bursary will be like either so it's all a bit worrying, but hopefully it'll all work out in the end!

I have an interview soon at BUCKS for nursing. very worried about the interview. Want to no what maths and english to cover to help me out.
Hey,
Aw cool, is it adult nursing? When would you be starting?
Seriously don't worry about the Maths and English too much, it's pretty basic GCSE level and when we were doing the maths, the lecturer said it's not as important that you get everything right as it is in some unis, if you didn't do well on one part but they really like you in the interview, for example, then they may ask you to re-do that part as a condition on getting a place on the course.
The English was just one question and you had to answer it in an essay-type format. My question was to do with elderly people in care homes and whether they should have to fund it, etc. Just remember, spelling, grammar, structure, etc, and get your view across as well as looking at it in the opposing way.
With the Maths, just literally look over general fractions, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc (the GCSE basics) and you'll be fine!
I also had a group interview, where two lecturers from the course put questions/topics on nursing (mainly mental health issues for us) across to a small group of us and we had to discuss. Not sure if you'll have the same, but if so, remember to listen to others, keep good eye contact, act like you're interested in what everybody has to say and also put your point across when you can, without being too pushy.
Good Luck anyway, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask and I'll try and help as best as I can!
I'm sure you'll do great, let me know how you get on! xx

hey there girls i also just accepted into Bucks New University for Adult Nursing this september. looking forward to seeing some of you guys around, just worried as i don't know no one there.:wink:
Heyy
Sorry for the late reply, as u an probly guess I seem to have NO time on my hands with all these assignments and placement :frown: im just one big stress pot at the moment lol
Im doing my 3 placements at Charing Cross Hospital and then have a learning disabilities placement at the end, its going pretty well so far- you learn a lot more in placement than at uni I must say.
I live in the nurses accomodation at the moment which is right near my placement, but i'm thinking of finding somewhere close to uxbridge for Year 2.
What kind of places have u been looking at Charliee?? x

Hey, I've also been accepted onto adult nursing at Bucks. Im really excited but I'm worrying about accommodation and how to get a house with other students off the course. Could anyone help me on how to do this please ?
XxLady LeexX - No problem, I totally understand, you must be so busy with everything! Has the work load been crazy from day one? Sounds rather scary! Your placements sound good though, I bet you learn loads on placement! I’ve been looking for places to rent online, it’s so expensive! I’m going to wait and see if I can get in on a houseshare at some point, it’s all rather confusing, I thought there may have been student halls, but hopefully things will get sorted in the end! xx

Maggie xxx Hey  I’m really not sure about getting in to live with others on the course, it’s so difficult without there being any halls of residence! I’ve phoned the uni a few times as I read somewhere on a forum about being able to put your name down on a list to get in on a houseshare with other students but they weren’t really very helpful! I guess it’ll be easier in year 2 after meeting people on the course. It seems so hard! The guy from the Bucks accommodation service said Gibbs and Nupad specialise in student lettings. Sorry I’m not much help! I’m guessing there’ll be lots of us in the same boat though! xx

Hey there! Aw cool, I don't know anybody at all either! It's so scary isn't it? Uxbridge is about 4-5 hours away from my home town, lol, crazy! I'm sure we'll all be settled and get to no others after a few weeks of being there.. hopefully! xx

No no, at least I now know that Im not the only one ! So I'm very appreciative of your message :P Yeah, I have done all of this too and its really stressful! The accommodation man told me that there was like a meet and greet thing coming up in August where Nupad and Gibbs will be there and they help you find housemates. But I'm from Ireland and I was just hoping that it would be a bit easier !But I have peace of mind that I'm not the only one worried about where Im going to be living !ha xxx

Hi there everyone,

I'm starting Bucks New, Uxbridge in September, and I'll be studying Adult Nursing
Just wondering if anyone's looking for someone to flat share with, as I'm thinking of possibly trying to get a group of Nurses together?
Good luck with exams and results etc!
So excited to start in September

Hope to hear from you soon,

Jacinta xx

Hey,

I think I might commute into uni between from September until February. I live in Hackney in East London and it will take me an hour and a half to get to lectures :s-smilie: I know once we are on placements in September that I will have to move as there no way I will want to travel so much but thought it might be ok just for lectures.

However, I would definitely up for looking for a flat with a few people from September if anyone would want to do that? As I don't live *too* far away I can be around for viewings. My budget is £400 pcm with all bills included. Let me know if anyone wants to start flathunting! x

Aw, I know it is really stressful! That meet and greet thing sounds really good. Are you going to go? Or would it be too tricky to come from Ireland? I’m quite far away too so it is difficult. I just presumed it would all just kinda fall into place! No such luck, lol! I think the more people in a houseshare, the cheaper it’ll be, it’s such hard to organise it without knowing anyone! But as you say, we all seem to be in the same boat which is quite comforting! xxx

Hey Jacinta!
Aw cool, yeah it would be really good to get a group of nurses together, atleast then everyone would understand eachother and the work load and busyness of the course! It all seems so difficult to organise things without knowing anyone and properties seem to be so expensive, which is a shame! I’m really excited to start in September too. Charlie xx
Hey again there ladies
First off congrats to all for being accepted at Bucks, im sure ur all looking forward to it, the work load is alot but it will all pay off in the end.
Heres some info to help you guys out, it may be abit much to take in but here i go anyway lol

In the first 6 months you do what is known as a Common Foundation Programme, which pretty much means all nurses (whether doing Child, Adult or Mental) all learn the same topics, such as Human Biology and Nursing Practicals.
Your given the option of about 3 hospitals to choose from, as to where you want to do your placement (this is done about 4 months before you actually start placement).
Im doing all my placements at The Charing Cross Hospital, which is in Hammersmith... shifts are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm or 1:30pm to 9:30pm (and depending on your employer sometimes they let you go an hour early .... if your doing adult or child however, im sure it is three 12-hour shifts a week.
You learn a hell of alot on placement and so far iv had really nice mentors but it does get tiring working full time (which i had never done before).

Thoughs of you that are worrying about accomodation I would recommend hospital accomodation (im not sure if you can actaully move in before your actual placement starts) but im currently living at the Charing Cross Hospital accomodation for student Nurses and Doctors which is situated right next to the hospital (like a 10 second walk wahoo:smile:. You share a bathroom and kitchen between 4 of you and you get a decent size bedroom for approx £270 a month which i think is fantastic. (oh i forgot to mention Hammersmith is about an hour away on the train from Bucks uni itself).
This may not make any sense to you guys right now but Im sure the Uni will provide you with much more information, and since im doing Diploma, im not sure if the way the course is set out will be different to mine, so please dont quote me on it lol
If your not sure about anything dont hesitate to ask me questions  xx

Hiya, I considered this, but I thought it may be a hassle commuting? I also thought about living at High Wycombe for the first 6 months before placement begins, then thought it might be a hassle moving to Uxbridge after 6 months? What does everyone think?

I'm looking for people who are considering flat sharing etc, if anyone is interested  I'm coming from near Sheffield, so it's quite a distance. Would be nice to talk to people before term starts

See you all in September

I was thinking the same because at least the bills are all included in the price. I didn't want to because I thought I would be the only one doing nursing living there! I think I might apply anyway to keep my options open. has anyone heard a date for the day in Aug for the meet nd greet ?? xx
