I recently secured payment for my University Accomodation and received a letter back saying that a Guarantor was needed for me to do 3 installments of rent. Now my problem is to be a Guarantor you are required to be a homeowner, which unfortunately my mum and dad aren't.
I asked whether i could still pay in installments as i won't be "messing" around with money as most accomodations think students do, the answer was i can't unless i have a Guarantor.
I have asked a few people in my family that are home owners to be a Guarantor but it seems none of them will do it, simply because they dont like the fact that they might have to pay back what i owe if anything ever happened (it wont because i know im going pay every single penny back on time).
So my problem is i have no Guarantor and i don't know what to do since it seems most Halls of Residence require one. My family is quite poor and i wont be able to find £3,000 by September to pay in advance (which you have to do without a Guarantor to secure a place).
I'm sure at least 50% of the Student population have parents that don't own homes, so how do half of these students find easy accomodation for University? I'm stumped!
What can i do?
Please help guys

Have you checked whether it NEEDS to be a homeowner? I signed up for private accomodation (prematurely, I had to cancel because I decided to stay with friends- but that's another story), and they let me put my mom as a guarantor despite the fact that she rents our home.
Unfortunately, if they then say it must be a homeowner, I can't think of any way you can get around it. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help!
