How competitive is philosophy at UCL? gulp

Hi,
I was just wondering, is philosophy at UCL really competitive? According to their website, typical offers for V500, straight philosophy, is AAB. So....i dunno...i've been surfing around the forums and looking at how 90% of the applicants have amazing grades  straight A*s for GCSE and predicted straight As for A2. thats really quite intimidating haha

anyhow...my grades were:
GCSE: 3 A*, 5 A and 4 Bs
AS:
Chinese A (I dropped this cuz apparently unis don't look at it if i'm chinese.. :frown: )
Maths A
History A
Chemistry B (i dropped this subject)
Economics C (i declined this grade) :p:
Further maths AS ?

So now my prediction for A2 is only AAB(for econ) plus 3 extra AS grades for general studies, chinese and further maths.

i hope those grades are fine...sighs, 3 or 4 people from my school in hk already has offers....some others with letters sayin they've received their apps....i havn't received anything yet.....w00t. hmmmmmm i dun think its likely a uni would give so many offers to 1 school? *sigh
any help would really be appreciated :hmmmm:

I just received mail from UCL, they gave me 2 passages from Hume and want me to analyse, assess and evaluate them. quite daunting.

ahh. they'll accept you if you can answer:

1) this is the question. what is the answer?

2) Find a flaw with Rene's 'Cogito Ergo Sum' argument.

good luck

HAhaa i guess i'm gonna fail then.

Anyhows, i'll try my best =]

My 1st question is on Hume's argument against miracles as a violation of the laws of nature
2nd is to evaluate how we value individual liberty and cites the example of how smoking and drinking alcohol is legal, but drugs are not, when 'there should be no reason to treat it differently'

Quite interesting

Btw, i'm a Hong Kong applicant whos gonna be attending a Cambridge interview next week on the 6th...ya think i cld request for a UCL interview on the 8th or sumthin? or 7th? or should i just scrap that notion and focus on my essay...because i think i'm doing this because i can't receive interview :s-smilie:...

i duno, just a thought. :p:

You are welcome.
The stanford philosophy site is good.
Another interesting site that I sometimes enjoy reading is http://www.iep.utm.edu/
I am currently reading articles on Evil from both sites
