Do you agree with positive discrimination based on race?

Whilst I agree with everything you said most racists are white and its always been the case. Out of all the black people and asian people I know, o
Yeah because that doesn't sound racist

the smallest thing can stop you working with children, you may have had one silly drunken night and been caught doing something you shouldn't have

a old teacher of mine said they was interviewing a new teacher it came up on this CRB check that he was fined/ caught for peeing in the street

its good people are checked to some level
Oh of course. You need to ensure that those dealing with children aren't going to harm them, I entirely agree. The point I was trying to make is that sometimes these processes go too far and become too much hassle and burden for people; I bet many don't bother because of the system.

No, discrimination of anyone based on race is bad and should always be frowned upon.

Yeah because that doesn't sound racist
Its not racist, its fact. If you were educated to a satisfactory level you'd be well aware of that fact.

Out of all the black people and asian people I know, only 1 of them hates white people and thats because he's been racially abused and so on so acts that way back in retaliation. I know of quite a lot of white people who use racist terms in casual conversation which I think is ignorant and I stopped speaking to one person purely because of his ignorant attitude. Either way, I don't agree with racism.

My other thread was made because I've known of older people and teenagers but I was quite taken aback and disgusted by a young child being racist towards an old foreign woman living in the same street.
It could easily be argued there are more white racists in England because its a white country. You would be hard pressed to find more white racists in Mexico than Hispanic racists.

See, racists aren't white or black or asian or lesser-purple-spotted-pony, they are human beings. By insisting on using racial profiling it not only perpetuates the artificial, socially-constructed relationships between "white" people and "black" people it legitimises their attacks. Understanding why "racist" attitudes are fairly commonplace is quite difficult - for the most part human beings are dismissive of things their don't understand or makes them uncomfortable. You only have to look in the last few pages at the casual xenophobia in this thread shown towards tehFrance because he is French to know that it is not limited to perceptions of difference based on skin colour.

A young child will repeat the terms they have heard from older people in their peer group because it has been normalised in their experience. Just as children learn to speak a particular language as their native tongue because it is the normal mechanism for communication.

Thats a fair point and its probably the case. However, you only have to look through history to see that white people have been a lot more racist and still those beliefs in some households are being passed down and children think they're the norm. Im not saying all, most white people in modern society have grasped that we're all equal, however there still seems to be some who are intolerant, ignorant and racist due to racist views being passed through generations. If you look back to the 80's you can see racism towards ethnic minorities was rife and some children today have fathers from those times who are still teaching them that being racist is fine.

You look at say Japan they are pretty renown for being racist not just to whites and blacks but to Koreans and the Chinese. It happens everywhere. The dominant ethnic group will always discriminate against the minorities on a larger scale.

Not trying to justify it though.

I've been watching cbeebies a lot recently and I have to say it depresses me to see how much attitudes have changed since I was a kid.

Take Mister Maker for example (An utterly dire Art Attack clone) where every time scissors are used, mentioned or even displayed, the host has to reiterate in the strongest terms how scissors are sharp.

We didn't have that in art attack, or at least nowhere to the same level. It's the same with the cookery program's that say you mustn't use an oven without an adult.

This to me reflects how a lot of parents these days expect others to ensure their child's well being for them. If I ever did anything with crafts as a child my parents, in one of the only positives I can mention regarding them, kept an eye on me. Same if I did anything in the kitchen. I didn't need a program to drum in how I should have adult supervision because the adults in my life would supervise me as a matter of course.

It's the same with parents who try to get websites/TV programs banned because of inappropriate content. It shouldn't be up to the site/program to censor themselves, it should be up to the parents to ensure as much as possible that their kids don't encounter inappropriate material.

    /poorly presented rant

Well for a start, we didn't have a channel dedicated to the pacification of children running from 7am to 7pm every day. We had cartoons for 90 minutes before school and then from 3 - 5:30 monday to friday after school. Then Live and Kicking on a Saturday morning. Or you could watch the disney programmes on CITV.

Also, note the sickening adverts about recycling and saving precious water and all the other south-east inspired insipid crap. If kids are to learn about the outdoors they actually have to go there, not sit in front of the telly with carefully concocted "mixed" groups of children doing faux-yoga (a la waybullo) learning makaton (a la something special) or simply just being taught how to be stupid and very pc (a la pretty much everything else).

Edit: I remember the first bar, of course!
