My brother is in the Police and took it to work with him. He put the only copy of some CCTV on there so now it has been seized for the courts as evidence. So I now have no clue when or if I will get it back.
    Anything important on it?

Yep. The committee could commit him to prison for the remainder of the current Parliament.
Though even if that is still on the statutes, it would never happen!

Please explain to me why this is the case? would it not actually be quite sensible as it will teach the teenager about handling money which will be useful for the future in general as you'd be better at budgeting and what-not, also it should help them with math skills and with making decisions on the spot that will work out best for not only themselves but when they have a job in the corporate world for their bosses thus increasing chances of rising up through the ranks.

You do realise that the minimum that you need to start dealing in shares is £100 which means that anyone with a job that pays them minimum wage... even below average teenagers can play the market.
Yes but investing £100 is a total waste of time and energy when you factor in trading fees and the actual profit you'll make. If you want to teach teenagers money skills teach them about savings accounts, household budgets, mortgages etc. Share dealing is a very niche thing where you need to invest thousands if you want to see a decent return.

You're going to get negged to hell for that without people even reading the full post.

Teaddict, you're pretty naive if you think that either Britain is all that good at "science" and "creativity" or that the manufacturing can necessarily be completely separated from the concept and design stage.

Fact is few people now have jobs that require "creativity". A huge amount of people merely occupy the many administerial positions required in big business.

Apparently you get signed up to them when you use certain websites, which gets you a discount on that site. Then they charge £14.95 a month as membership fees. I believe Zavvi sign people up to it...

    Smack, try reading it properly.

We make billions out of designing products, whilst other countries actually manufacture it - take Arm Holdings. They are a huge company that purely design products - they don't manufacture anything.

I said we are pretty good at science and creativity/design - that is fact. We are good at it.

The main point of what I wrote is:

    1. Loss of industry isn't always bad
    2. Economies will inevitably move away from manufacturing to more productive and profitable activities such as design, research and development etc (China is undergoing this change now)
    3. That we are still a large manufacturer - our manufacturing base is larger, as a share of GDP, than financial services.

Yeah, I've just done a Google search. Turns out it can come from TheTrainLine.com as well which could be a possibility - although I hadn't bought any train tickets around the time their email ended up in my spam. I've emailed them demanding my money back threatening to take the issue further if I don't.

That is just one example, in one field, and according to Wikipedia Arm Holdings has a revenue of four hundred million, not billions, and only employ 1700 people...

Why do you think that we in the oil industry we also don't outsource our manufacturing to India and China? Because to be good at designing things, you've got to be good at manufacturing them, too. They go hand in hand. Designers in most industries must be close to the source of manufacturing, because you can't design something without taking into account how it is going to be manufactured. This is why you'll find that the new design engineers will spend a healthy amount of time in manufacturing yards witnessing the fabrication and manufacturing process. If we can't give that experience then the quality of our engineers will decrease even more than it is.

And also, are you suggesting that there is no "creativity" or "science" in manufacturing?

I said we are pretty good at science and creativity/design - that is fact. We are good at it.
We're most definitely not. A lot of our talent is imported and we're soon going to face stiff competition from Eastern engineers who grew up around manufacturing. Because of this experience they will simply be better than our own who only grow up around modern glass offices. It is no coincidence that the best engineers in industry grew up when we were still a large manufacturer.

I started with $500 and overall I have done quite well, when you start with a small amount of money, the aim is to build up your knowledge and diversify so that you can then go on to take risks that will give you a healthy return.

Anyone that dives in and spends all their (limited) money on one group of shares is an idiot who really shouldn't even think about going near the stock market. Only those that are comfortable and feel like they have done enough background and role play on virtual sites should do so.

We [Britain] makes billions out of designing products << How is that wrong?

    Didn't say that at all.

In your thread you said that "Arm produces billions a year", and in your post that I quoted you said that Arm are a "huge" company.

    Didn't say that at all.
You are definitely implying it in your post.

And also, why have you ignored all of my other points?

I don't see why that thread is getting negged. I'd rep it but I rep you to much unfortunately.

There is nothing wrong with your post factually anyway tbh. So its pretty clear people are negging it from ideological/political motivations
