So my cousin and his wife have recently had a baby, and they want me to be Godmother, however they know I'm not religious, (although do believe in God), while they are strict Catholics. Surely i'm not allowed to be Godmother? I would just lie about and agree, because my beautiful Goddaughter would be bought up Catholic anyway, I wouldn't have much to do with it, but I think they want to do it by the book, so to speak. They said their priest might not allow me as an official Godmother, (which doesn't bother me, since they said I still would be in practice), in which case i'd be a witness.
To anyone in the know, what happens at a christening, what does the Godparents have to do? If I were just a witness, what would that entail? I'm nervous of speaches and the like, I think i'll need to prepare.
    Any information would be appreciated
