    Do you thinkt he smacking / hitting of children is still an acceptable punishment in our so called 'civilised society' ... it came up in sociology last week so I thought i'd see what people thought

    I was smacked and sent to the wall growing up.
    Doubt my mother would have much qualms bowt doing the same now.
    Within reason I don't see it to be a bad thing

    I was never smacked and I always behaved. No way is it necessary for discipline. And most of the people who I know did get smacked as kids have major issues with their parents now.

    Its fine in my opinion as long as its not too hard and doesnt inflict much pain or do any damage. I dont think it actually hurt, just the shock. You knew they were really pissed off when they hit you.
