I have an unconditional offer for Journalism and as I'm on a gap year; I'm not doing much apart from working.
Therefore, I was wondering if anyone on here knew what the book list was for the 1st year of the Journalism course? Or could at least recommend decent books that may help me for when I start the course in September?
As I said, I'm not doing much apart from working so I have spare time and thought it would be useful to just read up on things that might be helpful for the 1st year.

(I already emailed City, but they haven't replied yet)

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Is this the journalism BA? I have a conditional for September entry, but no one has said anything to me about the reading list yet. Mind, I did miss the post-applicant open day due to prior commitments so they might have said something then...

Yeah, this is the journalism BA.

Hey, I'm a 1st year BA Journalism student at City - in the middle of exams at the moment!

I wouldn't worry too much about books at the moment; I haven't found one particular book to be essential, but you'll need a few to help, and from what I've seen there are a few that'll help for the whole degree:

Newswriting by Anna McKane (She's also course director)

Press Gang by Roy Greenslade (Prof at City and also writes for the Guardian)

Politics UK by Bill Jones and Dennis Kavanagh

Power Without Responsibility by James Curran and Jean Seaton

I bought all these (Newswriting I got free from Anna on the open day) and they've all been really useful for at least one module. If you want any more advice feel free to send me a message!
