The SNP have announced they are freezing council tax for another 4 years and keeping unis free if they remain in power. Earlier this year they made prescriptions free for all, costing the already stretched NHS millions to save us all £4 each. They are desperate to run this country into an impoverished hole but the chookters/idiots of Scotland will lap this up.

Just wondered if anyone else is worried that Scotland will resemble the pits of Hell by 2015 if they remain in power...? Thoughts/opinions please.*

This is why politicians can't be trusted with the economy. All they care about are short term fiscal policies to ensure they win the next election with little to no regard as to how the long term health of the economy will be affected.

It's really quite pathetic and incredibly careless.

Perhaps. I would argue that they aren't really losing any money (since the UK treasury, not just Scottish tax payers fund them) And I would also like to point out that both Labour and the lib dems in Scotland are also in favour of the scrap in tuition fees. Labour is backing the council tax freeze. The devolved government may be spending more money than it can afford...but that blame doesn't only lie with the SNP, the same siyuation would arise under either of the other two main parties.

The SNP are the best party that Scotland could ever hope for.

The interesting thing is, that its the threat of secession which funds the SNPs spending plans. If Scotland were to actually become independent, then yes, **** would get real. But all the time they keep walking that tightrope without falling, its all gravy.

    How?

They have frozen council tax for 4 years and the Tories have set their funding allocation from central Govt...

Umm frozen council tax = less money with inflation. I assume you don't live in Scotland because of you did you would see the need for a rise in council tax. Also, if the English unis are charging £9000 and we continue to give £1820 per student then a massive education gap will occur between Scotland and the rest of the U.K in just a couple of years.

They ramp up spending, and cut taxes - it's bound for a big mess. In addition to that, the treasury offered them either a phased withdrawal of funds, of equal fall every year, or a bumper year this year, followed by a bigger fall next year. This being election year, Salmond jumped at the chance. Very short-sighted.

You can't run a country on tomorrows money. It's complete madness and extends the power of politicians to obscene levels. Just because someone is charismatic and knows how to tell the right lies to the people doesn't mean they should be in a position of power which can potentially ruin the lives of others.

Fiscal policy is rarely made for long term economic gain, especially when it advocates further spending and extension of governmental powers.

Funding a country on a budget deficit is using tomorrows money. It has to be paid back in some form or another at some point.

The thing that really annoys me about the SNP is they do all these things and Salmond pretends that it would be exactly the same if Scotland were independant.
