Did anyone else find Grade VI aural really hard?
I got 27 on all of my pieces (violin)
Full marks on scales
Merit on sight reading
But then failed my aural :frown:
Just started my grade VII pieces now, is there any tips to improve my aural?
Many thanks in advance

Grade 2-Pass
Grade 3-Pass
Grade 4-Pass
Grade 5-Pass
Grade 6-Merit
Grade 7-work.in.progress

Too be fair I didn't put in much work until grade 6 which shows if you put the work in you get a good result

Voice

Grade 1-Distinction
Grade 3-Distinction
Grade 5-Distinction
Grade 7-due to take in March

Theory

Grade 1-Distinction (97/100)
Grade 5-Merit (87/100)

I haven't done any exams with Trinity as I was with guildhall before they joined together but don't like that they don't have theory requirements like ABRSM.

Piano: Grade 1 (Merit), Grade 2 (Merit), Grade 3 (Pass), Grade 7 (TBC - I stopped grades ages ago and might take an exam just before I go to uni)
Theory: Grade 2 (Merit), Grade 5 (Merit)

Reply 49

Flute on ABRSM
skipped grade one
g2 merit, g3 distinction, g4 merit, g5 distinction, g6 merit, g7 pass
grade 5 theory merit
I'm taking Grade 8 in March, no idea what I'll get
I did grades 3-5 on Piano as-well but I can't remember what I got, I enjoyed it kind of but couldn't be arsed to carry it on and I prefer playing for myself (like I do with guitar) because my teacher wound me up too much
ABRSM over Trinity any day, I just think it does a more well rounded examination

did piano, singing and theory with ABSRM and flute with trinity. ABRSM definiately feels more of an achievement for some reason - the exams seem harder

ABRSM Piano:

Practical
Grades 1-8: pass (skipped grade 7) I'm awful, I know!

Theory
Grade 1: Distinction
Grades 2-4: Merit
Grade 5: Distinction

Reply 56

Flute

Grades 1-5, Distinction

Then spent 2 years sitting my grade 5 theory, gaining a pass (on the pass mark) on my 4th attempt at the exam! (This was about 9 years ago when I was a very moody teenager and teaching myself music theory clearly didn't work!)

Then did grade 8 and got a merit.

I also did grade 3 and 4 recorders and got distinction and got a merit in grade 2 singing.

dayum! you win, sir!

ps how old are you

Reply 58

Distinctions from grade 1-8 on viola. I had no social life for a good few years of my life.

Reply 59

I consistently get merits which is good enough for me haha! Usually score very well on pieces but my sight reading always really lets me down (I am useless at rhythms and then I panic )

Trinity Grade 5 + 6 Clarinet - Merit
ABRSM Grade 5 theory - Merit
ABRSM Grade 2-6 singing - Merit

Taking grade 8 singing in a few weeks but I think I'll be lucky to pass that

Think I got a distinction in my preliminary guitar exam though (;
