I think I only got a couple of distinctions in piano, and maybe one in violin, not sure. Most were merits. I may have got distinction in Grade 5 theory. I don't even know where my certificates are 
I got a ****ing pass in Grade 7 piano because I literally couldn't talk (let alone sing) on the day of the exam due to being ill so basically failed the aural part. The examiners were horrible to me as well that day.

I got 2 merits and a distinction for my instruments at grade 8. Up til then I was probably doing high merits and distinctions for my grades... can't really remember to be honest, it was a while ago!

I think scales are my weakness - I don't like to practice them... I would rather just play pieces...
I will be doing Grade 8 this December - I WILL get that distinction. I am actually practicing scales this time!
And then... the DIPLOMA...

Working on grade 8 violin! I have had mainly merits so far so secretly would love a distinction but a pass would be fine! Hope taking A level music has helped - looking back I never put many dynamics in my performances!

i got to grade 5 flute and got a distinction with abrsm, but i tried to get my theory and i failed it.. should i switch to trinity? is it harder? or should i just give up the flute? thanks

I've been taking piano ABRSM exams since I was five and have never had any problems. They used to be at a local music centre then I got into royal northern college of music three years ago when I was nine but have carried on taking exams with ABRSM because they (conveniently) use the college as an exam venue. I did my theory exams with ABRSM as well but I wish I hadn't because I got 87 out of 100 in my grade five theory which is a Merritt with ABRSM but I heard that that is the distinction mark with trinity (noooooooooooooo.........)
But apart from that, my experience with ABRSM exams has been great
